Date Night: Glazed Walnut Shrimp in Chinatown
Tucked away in Chinatown’s cozy, cultural district is a restaurant that never stops moving.
On a warm, summer night in Chicago, we opted in for a simplistic Chinese original Dim Sum dinner at BBQ King House.

Known for their grilled meats & poultry,we both decided to give our taste buds a surprise and try food that we wouldn’t dare try to pronounce.
If you want something that you’re familiar with, go for the egg rolls. Very satisfying. And I’ll go as far as to say that these were the best egg rolls that I have ever tasted. Soft on the outside and filled with a warm array of good Chinese flavors on the inside. I actually ordered two for myself and shouldn’t have said how delicious they were because it peaked J’s interest. So I gave him half of my second one (it was almost too good to share haha).
The main attraction for the evening was the glazed Walnut Shrimp with Broccoli. It was a combination of sweet and crunchy shrimp laid out on a plate of steamed broccoli. I gulped it down with my small cup of tea that brought back memories of Belle’s Castle from Beauty and the Beast.
J was seeking something with meat and him trying to explain that to our server was a sight to see.
You have to be very clear about what you want so you won’t be seated with an unknown dish in front of you.
He ended up with BBQ Pork with House Noodles. The BBQ Pork had all the flavor and the House Noodles tasted lean and healthy. It was an overall good, clean taste of flavor.
Note: Look at bae as his mind, body, and soul come together to tackle the food in front of him. He’s really concentrating on that delicious BBQ pork!

We finished our food right before the 10 PM closing. Well, I finished half of my glazed Walnut Shrimp but I left with a pep in my step. Being surrounded by all this culture just made me want to learn more around me and define our place in it.
