Pow Wow Cafe

The first stop on the tour is the Pow Wow Cafe. This indigenous restaurant is owned and operated by Ojibway chef Shawn Adler.

We had the opportunity to taste the Ojibwe-inspired taco featured below. One taste and I was hooked! It was a different type of deliciousness! I was pleasantly surprised as my mouth was greeted with different captivating flavors after every bite.

This dish is a modern take on a very historic delicacy that has its roots in New Mexico, USA.  The “Indian Taco” was born when a Navajo decided to top his bannock with beef chili. If you aren’t familiar with bannock, it’s simply indigenous bread.

This dish was yummy and a great way to awaken my taste buds!

Bacon Nation

I’m not a huge fan of bacon but this brilliant bacon-topped sandwich hit the spot!

The Peameal Bacon sandwich was probably my favorite food item during the tour! I was so tempted to close my eyes and savor every moment but I had to make sure I was actively listening to the wonderful insights from our tour guide.

This seductively sensational Toronto-style sandwich is made with a brioche bun, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, and mild cheddar. Enjoy every bite because it will quickly glide down your body within minutes!

Nu Bagel

I will never think about a bagel the same way again.

The Montreal style bagels at Nu Bagel redefined every bagel that I will eat for the rest of my life.

To maximize your tasting experience, you should smell the bread first and dip it in cream cheese. This is how you’ll get produce the sweetest flavors in your mouth.

These tasty bagels are made by boiling the bread in honey water and then baking it in a woodburning stove. It was pretty cool that the owner of Nu Bagel took us in the kitchen area to show us how it’s all done. We were also able to take home some bagels and I couldn’t stop nibbling on them!

Wanda’s Pie in the Sky

Did anyone say dessert time? If you have a sweet tooth, check out Wanda’s Pie in the Sky.

During our tour, we were invited to taste the butter tart. It’s a popular bite-sized dessert in Canada made with all local ingredients.

Last but not least, we had the famous Nanaimo bar and it was delicious! It’s soft and soothing taste is a great dessert option to have with your favorite tea or coffee. The tea calms down the sweetness of the bar and gives you a tranquil feeling.

I really can’t compare this dessert to any other. It’s very unique and the three-levels of texture you get from the bar may be a bit new to your taste buds. But it was the perfect way to conclude the Great Canadian Food Tour!

After eating the bar and drinking the tea, I was in the mood to reflect on how amazing the experience was and the diversity of food that Kensington Market offered.

Well, until the next time we meet! I highly recommend the Great Canadian Food Tour if you are heading to Toronto. A special thanks to our Gracious Host and Global Food Master Jusep who is the brains behind the Great Canadian Food Tour. Great stories, delicious food, and an unforgettable experience!
